Host Terms
This is a plain-language summary of the terms you agree to when you host on HOPSCOTCH. The full legal terms are being finalized with legal counsel and will replace this page. Version 2026-10-draft-1.
Your role as a host
- HOPSCOTCH is a marketplace that connects families with private play spaces. You provide the space only, not childcare or supervision.
- A parent or guardian stays on-site with their children for every booking and is responsible for them.
- You host as an independent individual, not as an employee or agent of HOPSCOTCH.
Who can host
- You must be 18 or older and have the right to host at the property. If you rent, or have an HOA, make sure your lease or HOA rules allow it.
- You'll complete identity verification and a background check, and acknowledge the Good Neighbor Guidelines, before your listing goes live.
- Every listing is reviewed by our team. We may decline, pause or remove a listing that doesn't meet these terms.
Your listing and safety
- Keep your listing accurate, including photos, amenities, hours and the safety checklist (fencing, pools and water features, play equipment, other people or pets, and known hazards).
- Guests must be able to use the space without going through your home.
- Before every booking, make sure the space is clean, ready for children and checked for hazards like open gates, uncovered pools, broken equipment, and sharp or loose items.
- Update your listing right away if anything changes.
Bookings
- Respond to booking requests within 24 hours. Requests you don't answer expire, and the guest's card hold is released.
- With Instant Book on, bookings are confirmed automatically, except bookings starting less than 24 hours away, which still come to you as requests.
- Bookings are hourly. No overnight stays, ever.
- Keep bookings, messages and payments on HOPSCOTCH. Don't ask guests to pay you outside the platform.
Pricing, fees and payouts
- Listing is free and you set your own rates.
- HOPSCOTCH keeps a 5% host fee from each booking. Guests pay a separate service fee that doesn't come out of your earnings.
- Payouts are sent to your bank account through Stripe after a short hold period.
- You're responsible for any taxes on your earnings and for any permits or licenses your city or county requires.
Cancellations
- Families plan around your bookings, so please cancel only when you must.
- If you cancel, the guest gets a full refund.
- Repeated cancellations may lead to your listing being paused or removed.
Problems, damage and insurance
- Report any damage, injury or concern from the booking as soon as possible, and our team will follow up.
- You can block a guest from booking or messaging you again.
- We recommend checking that your homeowner's or renter's insurance covers guests visiting your property.
Respect and privacy
- Treat every family with respect. Don't turn guests away based on race, religion, national origin, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or family status.
- Use guests' information, including children's names, only to host their booking.
- Follow the Good Neighbor Guidelines so hosting stays welcome on your street.
Ending or changing your hosting
- You can edit, unpublish or delete your listing at any time. Bookings already confirmed should still be honored or properly cancelled.
- We may suspend or remove a host for safety concerns or for breaking these terms.
- We may update these terms. If we make an important change, we'll let you know.
