Privacy Policy

This is a plain-language summary of how we handle your information. The full legal policy is being finalized with legal counsel and will replace this page. Version 2026-09-draft-1.

What we collect

  • Account details: name, email, phone number (optional), and a profile photo (optional).
  • Booking details: dates, times, guest names, and messages between guests and hosts.
  • Payment details: handled directly by Stripe. Hopscotch never sees or stores your full card number.
  • Identity and background-check results, for hosts, used only to decide whether a listing can go live.
  • Approximate device location and technical data (browser, IP address) needed to run the site securely.

How we use it

  • To create your account, process bookings and payouts, and send booking-related emails, texts, or notifications.
  • To verify hosts and keep the marketplace safe (identity checks, background checks, reviews, and reports).
  • To respond to messages you send us, and to improve the site.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Only the other party to a confirmed booking sees the details needed for that booking (like the address). We use a small number of service providers to run Hopscotch: Stripe (payments), Supabase (our database and login system), Resend (email), Twilio (text messages, only if you opt in), and mapping/geocoding providers to show a general neighborhood on a listing. Each only receives what it needs to do its job.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the site secure — these can't be turned off and don't track you across other sites. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Your choices

  • Download a copy of your data or delete your account any time from your profile.
  • Turn text and push notifications on or off from your profile.
  • Contact us any time with a question or request about your data.

Children's privacy

Hopscotch accounts are for adults (parents, guardians, and hosts). We don't knowingly collect information directly from children. A guest's account holder enters their own children's first names when booking, solely so a host knows who's coming.
